Global Health Conference — Summer 2025

Building Sustainable Capacity through Partnerships with African LMICs for Global Health, Research & Practice

Healthcare systems in Africa suffer from neglect and underfunding, leading to severe challenges across the six World Health Organization (WHO) pillars of healthcare delivery. Healthcare systems in Africa have, over the years, suffered from man-made issues which cut across institutional, human resources, financial, technical, and political developments.

The National Black Nurses Foundation (NBNF) in partnership with the 1Joshua Group (1JG) is working to increase awareness of this issue and provide physicians, nurses, and healthcare advocates worldwide with an evidence-based action plan to reduce the impact of health and medical challenges faced by African LMICs. This conference will address Global Health, Research, & Practice for these African LMICs to include interdisciplinary education, training, research, and practice.

At the close of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Examine the epidemiologic transition and rising burden of chronic non-communicable diseases to align medical and graduate education curriculum with LMIC needs.

  • Discuss innovative strategies for the prevention and control of leading infectious diseases in prioritizing ethics in healthcare research and delivery in LMIC.
  • Examine the role of African LMICs / diaspora business sector partnerships in research infrastructure capacity development in Africa.
  • Promote maternal and child health and reduce related morbidity and premature mortality.
  • Address geographic and socioeconomic inequities in health and healthcare access to decolonizing global healthcare research and delivery.
  • Promote innovative multidisciplinary strategies for health systems strengthening and improved access to care.
  • Address meaningful community engagement to advance health promotion and disease prevention to promote clinical and translational research and training in African LMICs.
  • Explore innovations in traditional medicine, integrative health, and related research.
  • Discuss the intellectual property and technology transfer needs of African LMICs in the 21st century.
